XAU/EUR coverage & file size, timeframe by timeframe
Every XAU/EUR timeframe shares the same 2023-03-14 start date, but not the same scale — coarser candles stay small while tick and intraday files grow fast. Current through 2026-11-02:

Working with the XAU/EUR series
Gold priced in euros is the series European allocators actually experience, and it can diverge from dollar gold for years at a time — a flat XAU/USD with a falling euro is a gold bull market in Frankfurt. The listed pair only starts March 2023; longer history must be constructed as XAU/USD ÷ EUR/USD, which is standard practice but embeds two spreads. Attribution first: always check which leg moved.
XAU/EUR historical data — the listed series, and how to extend it
XAU/EUR tick and 1-minute data
The listed pair starts 2023-03-14 at every timeframe, ticks and daily alike, so there is no longer daily tail to fall back on. The full 1-minute run is 1.3M rows, about 66 MB as CSV, and the complete daily file is 920 rows, about 46 KB as CSV. For most gold-in-euros research that is too short on its own, which is why the next section exists.
Gold in euros before 2023: build it from two files
Gold in euros per ounce is XAU/USD ÷ EUR/USD: dollars per ounce divided by dollars per euro. Download XAU/USD and EUR/USD at the same timeframe and over the same range, join them on the timestamp (both files are UTC), and divide. A daily series built this way reaches back to 1999-06-03, where the shorter of the two daily archives begins; an intraday series reaches back to 2003-05-05. Join on exact timestamps rather than by row number — the two files do not have identical gaps, and a row-wise divide pairs prices from different moments.
Bid and ask for a constructed series
To get the bid side right, use XAU/USD bid ÷ EUR/USD ask; for the ask, use XAU/USD ask ÷ EUR/USD bid. Selling gold for euros means selling gold for dollars, then buying euros with those dollars, and you pay a spread on both legs. Dividing bid by bid gives a series that looks a little tighter than any you could actually trade. Expect the constructed spread to be wider than the listed pair's, and measure the difference over the overlap since 2023-03-14 before using a backtest on the earlier years.
Is XAU/EUR historical data free?
The app is a free download and the data comes straight from Dukascopy Bank SA to your disk, never through our servers. Every licence, including the €9 entry tier, reaches the whole archive at every timeframe — XAU/EUR, XAU/USD and EUR/USD alike. Tiers differ by software features, never by history.
What's inside the XAU/EUR file
timestamp,open,high,low,close,volume
One row per candle, stamped with the bar's opening time; tick files instead carry timestamp, askPrice, bidPrice, askVolume, bidVolume on every quote — ask first. Timestamps are epoch milliseconds in UTC, which pd.to_datetime(df.timestamp, unit="ms", utc=True) or =A2/86400000+DATE(1970,1,1) turns into a date. Worked examples and import steps are in the CSV & JSON format guide.
