Where to start with Forex Metals
If you are picking a first series here, depth is usually what decides it. XAG/SEK reaches furthest back — daily candles from 1977-04-01, about 49 years — while XAG/JPY is the most recent addition, starting 2024-09-17. The other 16 sit between the two.
Watch the tick gap. 10 of these 18 instruments have a quote-level archive that begins years after their daily candles do, XAG/USD among them (daily 1999-06-03, ticks 2003-05-04). If a study needs the full span, work in daily candles; if it needs quote-level detail, the later date is the real start.
Each instrument page below lists its own per-timeframe start dates, row counts and file sizes.
What a Forex Metals download looks like
Sizes here are driven by how much of the week the market actually trades, so they differ from other asset classes. Taking XAG/USD as the worked example, over its full history:
| Timeframe | From | Rows | CSV size |
|---|---|---|---|
| Daily | 1999-06-03 | ~6,900 | ~343 KB |
| 1 hour | 2003-05-04 | ~141K | ~7 MB |
| 1 minute | 2003-05-04 | ~8.5M | ~423 MB |
| Tick (every quote) | 2003-05-04 | Far larger — usually gigabytes. Size a range before you run it. | |
Estimates at 50 bytes per CSV row, rounded. JSON runs larger; the file-size guide works through the arithmetic, and tick data vs OHLC covers which one you actually need.
Working with Forex Metals series
Gold and silver appear here quoted against nine different currencies, and those are separately quoted series — not XAU/USD converted at some daily rate. XAU/EUR has its own spread, its own quote times and its own tick timestamps, so a euro-denominated gold study you build by dividing XAU/USD by EUR/USD will not reconcile row for row against the XAU/EUR file, and the residual is largest exactly where it matters: around the London and New York opens, when both legs move at once. Fetch the cross you actually want rather than synthesising it.

Frequently asked questions
- How far back does Forex Metals historical data go?
- The deepest daily series in this class is XAG/SEK, with daily candles from 1977-04-01. Tick-level history is younger everywhere: the earliest Forex Metals tick data starts 2003-05-04, and the newest additions only from 2024-09-17.
- Which Forex Metals instruments have the longest history?
- XAG/SEK (daily from 1977-04-01), XAG/SGD (daily from 1980-01-02), XAG/EUR (daily from 1985-01-02). Each instrument page lists its exact per-timeframe start dates.
- Do all 18 Forex Metals instruments include tick data?
- Yes — every instrument here can be fetched at tick level, but each series only reaches back to its own tick start date (2003-05-04 for the earliest, 2024-09-17 for the newest listings). Always check the per-timeframe table on the instrument page before assuming intraday depth.
- When do Forex Metals markets trade?
- These pairs trade 24 hours a day, five days a week. Expect no rows from Friday's close to Sunday's open, and thinner tick density through the Asian session than around the London/New York overlap.
