Where to start with Crypto

If you are picking a first series here, depth is usually what decides it. Bitcoin vs US Dollar reaches furthest back — daily candles from 2017-05-07, about 9 years — while Bitcoin vs Pound Sterling is the most recent addition, starting 2023-03-14. The other 31 sit between the two.

Every instrument here offers quote-level tick data from the same date as its candles, so the granularity you choose does not cost you history.

Each instrument page below lists its own per-timeframe start dates, row counts and file sizes.

What a Crypto download looks like

Sizes here are driven by how much of the week the market actually trades, so they differ from other asset classes. Taking Bitcoin vs US Dollar as the worked example, over its full history:

TimeframeFromRowsCSV size
Daily2017-05-07~3,400~170 KB
1 hour2017-05-07~81,600~4 MB
1 minute2017-05-07~4.9M~245 MB
Tick (every quote)2017-05-07Far larger — usually gigabytes. Size a range before you run it.

Estimates at 50 bytes per CSV row, rounded. JSON runs larger; the file-size guide works through the arithmetic, and tick data vs OHLC covers which one you actually need.

Working with Crypto series

These are the only series here with no weekend. Crypto quotes run 365 days a year against roughly 252 trading days for everything else, so at any given timeframe a crypto file carries about 40% more rows per calendar week — the row counts in the table above already reflect that, which is why they look large next to an FX pair with the same start date. Two consequences: a cross-asset study that assumes an equal number of bars per week is silently comparing unequal samples, and there is no weekend gap to align on when you join a crypto series to a forex one.

Frequently asked questions

How far back does Crypto historical data go?
The deepest daily series in this class is Bitcoin vs US Dollar, with daily candles from 2017-05-07. Tick-level history is younger everywhere: the earliest Crypto tick data starts 2017-05-07, and the newest additions only from 2023-03-14.
Which Crypto instruments have the longest history?
Bitcoin vs US Dollar (daily from 2017-05-07), Ethereum vs US Dollar (daily from 2017-12-11), Bitcoin vs Euro (daily from 2018-05-15). Each instrument page lists its exact per-timeframe start dates.
Do all 33 Crypto instruments include tick data?
Yes — every instrument here can be fetched at tick level, but each series only reaches back to its own tick start date (2017-05-07 for the earliest, 2023-03-14 for the newest listings). Always check the per-timeframe table on the instrument page before assuming intraday depth.
When do Crypto markets trade?
Crypto trades around the clock, so these series have no weekend gaps — daily candles cover all seven days, and a week of tick data is ~40% longer than for a weekday-only market.
